Sensory Friendly Show Information

The Holdrege Sun Theater believes that everyone deserves to experience the joy of attending the latest and greatest for on screen entertainment.

Saturday 3:00PM matinees at the Holdrege Sun Theater will bring new release films to the big screen with lower sound and brighter, gentle lighting.

These sensory showings are designed for individuals with autism, ADHD, down syndrome, or those affected by other sensory needs.

These shows are also great for small children who do not enjoy the traditional quiet, dark movie theater setting, or might have an infant sibling that would like to tag along.

The Holdrege Sun Theater is committed to providing a safe, relaxing, and inclusive environment to build memories with friends, family, and caretakers while sharing the joy community movie-watching brings.

Why add a Sensory Show?

According to the National Institute of Health, up to 16.5% of the general population experience symptoms of a sensory processing disorder and individuals with sensory sensitivities can find the traditional movie-going experience difficult or uncomfortable.

These sensory friendly showings will make going to the movies a more enjoyable and accessible experience for families, children, and teens with sensory needs or anyone who would like for alternative accommodations.

What does Sensory Friendly mean?

  1.  First, it means brighter house lights and lower volume.
*Note: there are no modifications made to the film

  2. Second, audience interaction (movement, speaking, singing) and electronic communication device (phone, tablet, etc.) usage are allowed.

  3.  Third, movie-goers can enjoy a new release movie in a comfortable, relaxing environment without the stress of a typical quiet, dark movie theater setting.
